What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a cannabinoid which is found in the cannabis sativa plant. Cannabinoids are a type of chemical compound which interact with the endocannabinoid system in the human body.
CBD is just one type of cannabinoid; there are hundreds of others too. THC is another type of cannabinoid which is often mixed up with CBD. THC is the cannabinoid which is responsible for producing the characteristic high associated with marijuana use.
Will CBD get me high?
No. Although some users report feeling very relaxed and calm after using CBD oil, it isn’t psychoactive like THC. This means you won’t get high or stoned after taking it.
The two cannabinoids are very similar but the arrangement of the atoms means that CBD interacts with the body in a completely different way. You may feel some pleasant effects after using CBD oil, but it's impossible to get a true high.
What has hemp got to do with CBD oil?
You might often hear hemp used interchangeably with CBD oil which can be confusing.
The cannabis sativa plant has two main types: marijuana and hemp. CBD are present in both but marijuana has much higher levels of THC, the cannabinoid that produces the high. By comparison, hemp has very low levels - only industrial hemp with less than 0.2% THC is allowed in the UK. In some other countries, it's slightly higher - 0.3%.
However, hemp seed oil is very different as it's made from only the seed of the plant which contains no CBD. By contrast, CBD oil utilises the whole plant including the stalk and flowers. Hemp oil has many benefits but it's not a substitute for CBD oil.
Is CBD oil legal?
People often get nervous about buying CBD oil as it's derived from the same plant as marijuana, which is illegal in the UK.
Providing you are buying it from a trusted source, CBD oil is completely legal to purchase. There must be not more than 0.2% THC in CBD oil for it to be sold legally. Some contain even less. For example, here at Green Jungle our CBD oil products have less than 0.05% THC.
How do I take it?
It’s very simple to try CBD oil as there are many different types of products. These include oils you drip under the tongue, edible gummies, capsules and even vaping e-liquids.
